Field Crops
A range of Field Lettuce , Vegetable crops and Potatoes are grown supported by substantial irrigation capacity, and farm reservoirs for water conservation.
Field lettuce crops offer a range of varieties including Iceberg, Cos and Romaine, specialist Baby Cos types, a range of Little Gem lettuce with recent red leaf lettuce developments in seasonal continuity.
Brown and Red Onions are grown with bright, attractive skin presentation. Onions are usually cold stored to late April and early May; and stored in controlled atmosphere refrigeration until late June / July. Shallots, Borretane and Echalion onions are also produced locally in Bedfordshire on a commercial scale.
The early potato season, and later stored main crop Maris Piper potatoes remain key parts of the local Potato supply to Catering and Wholesale customers in South Eastern England.
Seasonal crop continuity is programmed with leading producers as Members of Bedfordshire Growers Ltd, and with marketing commitments to the Members of South Eastern Produce Ltd - a Salad and Vegetable crops Producers' Organisation. Full year crop supplies to key customers are planned through Sutton Farms Bedfordshire LLP, a grower owned Partnership formed to provide crops exclusively to Bedfordshire Growers Ltd.
