The central site includes three packhouses to grade, select, and package a range of Salad, Vegetable and Potato crops to customers' requirements. Extensive cold stores, long term controlled atmosphere stores, temperature controlled distribution facilities and refrigerated vehicles support the operations. Reserve power plants seek to ensure continuity of crops to customers programmes.
Deliveries are made to key customers 7 days a week / 363 days of the year / and to timed delivery schedules.
Bedfordshire Growers own vehicles, trailers and bulk units collect crops ex farm and are supported by local regular contractors using the trailer fleet. Local producers also make direct deliveries with tractors from neighbouring farms. All green crops are pre cooled on arrival at site to remove field heat, and held in refrigeration to extend customer keeping quality.
A Technical Manager and Quality Control team support skilled production staff monitoring the quality of crops throughout the supply chain from field to consumer.
