OUR
Growing
Bedfordshire Growers grow Alliums across the country from Bedfordshire to Cambridgeshire, Essex to Kent. Several different growing regions gives us climatic advantages as well as a range of soil types.
Planting starts in February/March with either sets or drilled crops.
The longest day on July 1st is a great barometer on how the growing season is progressing. Harvesting can start as early as July and hopefully all completed by the end of October. As with most of British farming we are under the laws of mother nature and rely on standard climatic conditions. Not too much rain and not too much sun.
Crops are graded and put into stores, either short term refrigerated stores or long-term stores, ensuring our British Onions can be enjoyed for 12 months of the year.
All of our growers are focused on GAP (Good agricultural practice)
and all farm to the Assured Food standards (Red Tractor) our farmers work very hard to ensure environmental stewardship on farm and go out of there way to leave areas un farmed to allow natural wildlife to create a habitat.
